I’m back with another snippet for this WEWRIWA (Weekend Writing Warriors) thing.

This scene is from right near the beginning, where our hero, Captain Roger, and his trusty ship, Mr. Ed, are trying to run a blockade by The Royal Navy. They only want to get to their holiday destination in one piece.
Luckily Captain Roger has a way to deal with incoming missiles…
We hooked around behind the navy ship, still travelling two hundred and sixty kilometres an hour, rangefinder at 000100: the scatter range for the pursuing missile.
The missile swerved to miss its ship of origin, but it did so a millisecond after it had already disgorged sixteen warheads, which ploughed straight through the navy battleship. Once more we were catapulted on a wave of debris, this time sending us whipping past the next ship of the battle-line.
I could see the enemy ships arrayed up close for the first time.
“There’s too many of them!”
“On the contrary,” I replied, tweaking our trajectory: “There are too few.”
Seems they have more missiles chasing them than they have Navy ships to crash them into. DUN DUN DAHHH!

Oh how I love clever captains/pilots! That last line made me smile, yup too few, what other tricks does he have up his sleeve?

Oh, and since this is near the beginning he’s in full blown alcoholic kamikaze mode (after a particularly bad stab in the back), so he’s willing to try some pretty desperate stuff… might not end well.

Haha, thank you! Ed is one of my favourite creations, a ship’s computer that starts glitching and thinking it’s sentient (and it kind of is). Glad you enjoyed the snippet 🙂

Thank you! Most appreciated, and glad you got something out of it. And yes, I’m not overly fond of super-serious fiction (one of my all time favourite authors is Terry Pratchett, who can’t do anything without at least a little bit of whimsy chucked in there)
