So, I now know how I’m going to write all the romance stuff in the story.
I am a guy. I like beer and meat products and top gear, and my favourite books usually involve lots of action and wizardry.
I also like the romantic bits in a story, because they add another dimension to things. I may have shouted something like “Oh come on!”, out loud, when I realised a certain scene in the latest Dresden Files book was just a dream sequence rather than real (is that a spoiler? I don’t think so…), because these things really matter to the reader. Almost as much as the fisticuffs and fireballs do.
My actual understanding of the intricacies of these romantic situations, the thought processes the characters (especially female characters) are having when I’m writing them? Almost zip. So what do?
Wait a minute: my wife watches drama all the time! Why not ask the expert? I am not claiming to have all the answers now, but asking certainly helped me get a better idea (and, let’s be honest, put a line through a heap of bad ones).
Do you go to certain people for particular kinds of writing advice?
Best regards,
